Recruitment Committee Report

Paul Brown and I had the opportunity on April 3rd and4th of this year, to attend an RTO workshop in Toronto that dealt with recruitment strategies to increase RTO/ ERO membership.

The sessions were set up so that each district was able to sit down with other districts and discuss their strategies. Recorders made notes of the ideas. The ideas were then posted and all districts were able to view and note strategies that might work in their area. A detailed list of the recorded strategies will be compiled and sent to all districts. The round table sessions were invaluable and there were some interesting recruitment strategies being used.

Of note was the ability of RTO/ERO to recruit associate members! All education workers, who have their own defined retirement package through CUPE, OMERS or other, can become associate members of RTO/ERO. Becoming associate members means they can hold district office and participate in the benefits program we have. If you know of any education workers, CUPE, OMERS or other let them know that they can become associate members of RTO/ERO and share in the health and travel benefit package we have access to. In most cases this is at a substantial savings over other offered plans.

GOODWILL REPORT

The committee continues to welcome new members with a card and makes charitable donations for deceased members. Members are also helping to do our job by notifying us when a member is in need of a card. Thanks! You are an important part of the team. We are pleased to report that a sizable donation of toiletries was given to the Women’s Centre following our Boston trip.

Donations of Toiletries

As in the past, the Donations Committee (more specifically the Chair - Edwinna Rawlings) has arranged for toiletries to be donated to the Chatham-Kent Women’s Centre. These would include new items such as shampoos and lotions from hotels in your summer travels or re-gifting of items you have received. Please bring them to the Annual Meeting October 19. Thanks to Edwinna for taking on this project and helping women in crisis.
